This week despite the drenching rains I have started several new interior design projects which is always exciting. It seems like everything happens at once as I am about to attend several local trade shows before heading overseas again. If only I could add an extra day to the week......... I'm loving our new Ralph wingback chair which is oversized for super comfort, with its deep buttoned back and feather wrapped seat it is the perfect spot to curl up and relax in, especially in this weather!! Happy New Year!! It's great to be back and full of enthusiasm for the year ahead. It is going to be a great year with lots of exiciting things happening!!!

I have just returned from a relaxing week in Auckland staying at the very comfortable Pullman Hotel & Residences. It's always so inspiring to visit a different city. Great restaurants and cafes and of course exploring all the quirky design stores the city is known for. I also especially loved all the wonderful old cottages and their beautiful gardens of the inner city suburbs.

Well prior to my trip (yes while you were all relaxing at the beach) we were busy unpacking and restocking the store after one of our busiest Christmas periods ever. There are some amazing new furniture pieces that have arrived including large mirrors, tables and several new designs of occasional and dining chairs. One of my favourite pieces is this stunning "Explorer Chair". It is a high wingback style chair, the back is wrapped in a hessian fabric with hand nailed detail while the front is upholstered with a beautiful aged world map impression that is printed directly on to the fabric.

It has been a long year with ups and downs for many of us! But with Christmas almost upon us and a New Year just around the corner I'm looking forward to the holiday break and a chance to rest and relax with friends. I'm also very excited about what the new year holds, as we have so many wonderful things planned for our store as well as great new furniture and decorating ideas all on their way. Look out for a whole new Aria! My team and I would like to thank you all for your support and loyalty, we have loved working with you all on your homes and in store and appreciate the positive feedback, it means a lot.

Move in day to a new home is always exciting for our clients. This week we have been involved with several homes as well as the installation of curtains and blinds on other projects. It is always a relief that everything goes off without a hitch and our furniture arrives safely. Motorised blinds are installed and curtains grace the windows. The finished result is wonderful, but most of all our client's appreciation means a lot to us!! A few more installations to go before Christmas to finish off the year..........

It is starting to look a lot like Christmas (if you can ignore the 30 degrees heat outside). Well the tree is up and it is exciting and a bit scary to think the shopping has started, where has the year gone?

As usual at this time of the year its is all rush to install all the projects we are working on. There are several banquette size dining tables to be delivered, dining chairs still to be upholstered, custom made bed heads to be completed and an array of curtains and blinds for all the different homes to be installed. Will we make it? of course....... we always do! We love this time of year and the joy we create for our lovely clients.

I thought I would post images of this sleek kitchen we have just completed for one of our clients. Our team has done an amazing job. From stripping the old standard county style look to the installation of this new contemporary inspired design. We are now working towards the completion of the adjacent dining and family rooms in time for Christmas. White Malawi chairs, sparkling crystal chandeliers and tribal art are all planned, so its a very exciting project. I will share the images soon with you all!!

As part of our own Aria collection the first two designs are available in either an off white circle design with fawn toned centre stitching while the other design is in a natural linen finish, completed with scalloped edge detail and quilting. Inspired by the luscious images of the pink and white bedroom setting by Designers Guild, we have manufactured this stunning blanket box for one of our favourite clients. After completing the bedroom several months ago with striped wallpaper, bone inlay tables and wrap around sheers the blanket box was the final piece to finish the room. Our upholsterer has done a wonderful job of placing the flower across the top and down the front. Just beautiful!

Just when I thought I was organised everything seems to go crazy….... This week we have been busy having furniture lifted up the side of a high rise building in Main Beach (who designed those ridiculously small lifts that never seem to fit any worthwhile furniture?). After a couple of stressful hours everything is all in place much to our and the client's relief.

We have also been busy completing several projects including a gorgeous pair of children’s bedrooms in pink and blue which I hope to photograph shortly and share with you. I am also looking forward to starting two new projects which is always very exciting.

You would think with so much happening as well as many new pieces coming and going from our store I would not be considering an overseas trip but have decided to squeeze in buying trips to both Thailand and Hong Kong in the weeks coming.

We love our neutrals, our soft linen tones and of course shades of white, but colour lifts the soul and defines a space it reflects the seasonal changes of our daily lives and creates individual and unique environments.
Whilst we have always used colour in our design work our showroom has reflected a more neutral colour pallet. Until now............... This week our renovation has begun to reflect our renewed love affair with colour.......... fuscia pink florals, stripes of lime green, coastal blues and mustard yellow are all arriving!!! With so much on over the next two weeks I'm going to take a short break from blogging....Next week I will be attending Decoration & Design in Melbourne which is always an inspiring event as well as a wonderful opportunity to soak up Melbourne's cafe culture, see friends and of course shop!
Our winter clearance will be finishing next week end as we begin setting up for our spring launch. I am very excited about the new products and designs that will start to appear over the weeks ahead as well as the bright new look our store will receive.

This week has been all about combinations as we are currently working with several clients and their homes. Each one has their own style asthetic which is quite different from the other.

Sea greens and shades of blue will be combined with crisp white to reflect a fresh coastal feel. I love using wallpaper and Designers Guild Nabucco Moss will look stunning as the feature wall in this home's living room. Combined with plush fabrics on the ottomans and cushions this client can hardly wait for every piece to be installed.

These are the luxe finishes that will be combined to create an exceptional space. We have selected silk wallpaper from Belgium, custom-made bedlinen and will wrap the expansive waterfront windows in grey and silver sheers. To complete the room the zebra hide that recently featured in one of our window displays will take centre stage in this room.

This week has just rushed by! With so much happening over the next few weeks I'm looking forward to a relaxing weekend...

When decorating, mirrors and art add so much detail to any room... I love the way mirrors expand a smaller space, reflect light and add sparkle to any setting. It seems I have been a bit slow on my blogging the past few weeks!
Since my return from India there has been so much to do and the launch of aria online has only added to this work load. I have arrived back in Australia to the cool fresh air we are so lucky to have here. Over the last week during my travels in India the temperatures reached a very uncomfortable 45 degrees and I experienced my first sand storm. Wow I love traveling! India is such a feast for the eyes, from amazing colours and rituals to the just plain crazy such as never ending traffic with every mode of transport possible. I was also lucky enough to be invited to a Sikh Temple, with over a thousand people in prayer at the time and the only westerner in attendance, it was an amazing experience.

Well its back to work this week. While I have been away we have received pieces from our new vintage leather collection which I am looking forward to unpacking tomorrow.

I'm a little behind on my posting recently as I have been very busy. I'm currently working on several projects in both Brisbane and the Gold Coast so traveling between the two cities can really eat into the day.

To me shutters create a cool relaxed holiday vibe. This home we have been working on certainly has that feel, we have installed new flooring throughout and I'm loving the contrast of darker walls with the wide blade shutters.

Work is always exciting for me as I am so lucky to have such wonderful clients who are passionate about their homes and surroundings. With several projects currently underway I had almost forgotten another small buying trip followed by a well deserved holiday had been booked (when is a holiday not deserved?). So this week I am leaving it all to my capable staff and heading off to eventually arrive in Bali for some serious relaxing by the pool (It better be sunny!). While I'm gone I know there will be some great new pieces arriving in store and I will update you all when I return.

As promised here are a few more images of our new hide collection we have been unpacking this week and the response has been amazing. Our benches which are available in three sizes and either a tan or black and white finish have been selling quickly. They look great when combined with our black leather desk for a very masculine look. Part of our collection also includes a very contemporary polished metal finish in both a console or bed side table option. Only limited stock is currently available on many of these lines.

After enjoying a fun week in Sydney despite the heatwave, its great to be back home for a couple of days before heading off to Melbourne on a buying trip to fill the store with exciting new things. This morning we received our first shipment of our fantastic new cowhide collection which I could not wait to post here. The collection includes consoles, trunks, desks and much more. I will post more images later in the week but for now this is our latest window display.

Despite the obvious pollution and poverty of New Delhi the Imperial Hotel is an oasis of colonial luxe and charm. Its grand public spaces and bars are the perfect place to relax and unwind after the hectic world that surrounds daily life in such a crowded city. The door man looks more likely to grant a wish than open a door........

This weekend I am off to Sydney to attend "Decoration and Design" which is always an exciting event and a great opportunity to see the latest trends in Australian decorating.

Our current Sale will finish next Saturday 5th when we will start unwrapping our new collections that have started to arrive.

My Travels

I have just returned after the most amazing trip through Rajastan and the pink city of Jaipur. It is hard to believe it has only been one week and I have seen and done so much in such a short time. Although India may not quite be every ones holiday destination I highly recommend it to those who like adventure, the unusual and a history all of its own.

Returning to Australia seems so strange when only hours ago in cold winter conditions I was surrounded by camels and elephants and the heaving throng of people from what seems like a different time.

These images are from a little project I am currently working on.

The shutters were installed just prior to Christmas and we have now had the feature walls papered in both the Bedrooms. The master bedroom is still waiting for its custom made bed head which will be in a soft tan toned leather that will contrast beautifully with Ralph Lauren paper I have used.

When it comes to art to complete a home my clients are always interested in not only my thoughts but also which galleries I suggest they visit. Whilst Sydney and Melbourne are bursting with fantastic exhibitions and many gifted artists, on the Gold Coast the art scene is a little smaller so its important for me to work with someone that has not only an outstanding reputation but the skills and knowledge I trust.

I recently caught up with Anthea Polson at her gallery in Main Beach. Not only is this one of my favourite galleries for its diverse range of represented and exhibiting artists, but when it comes to selecting art Anthea and her team's guidance are second to none.

Anthea is currently running a portrait show which is well worth a look in her recently expanded space.

Having never seen a white Christmas I'm loving these pictures from a very cold but beautiful looking Netherlands.

Well it has been an amazing year for me and my team in our new location and larger store. We have adapted and continued to grow through some troubling times in the world, thanks to the wonderful clients and friends that have supported us. I have loved the opportunity to work on and help create some beautiful homes and am excited to be starting several new projects in the New Year, after my return from a short break traveling through Rajasthan.

I'm looking forward to continuing this blog through 2011 where I hope to share those things that inspire my travels and work.

Tonight I'm off to my favourite hotel Palazzo Versace to finally relax after such a busy time and soak up some festive ambiance. Yeah!!

We have been very busy unpacking truck loads of new stock over the past few days including some beautiful new linen. Deliveries have included the latest designs from Biancia Lorenne in comforters and cushions as well as the Crellini linen bedspreads in assorted designs.

After such a busy time last week we were very excited to receive our new lighting collection. I love the black tripod table lamps which seemed an instant hit with our customers. I can not wait to use the retro floor lamp on a home I am currently working on as it has just the right aesthetic.

I thought I would post these two images of one of the projects we have been working on today. Our client's love of pink is obvious with the custom-made dining chairs and cushions to the installation of the Designers Guild wallpaper. We have also installed motorised blinds throughout this apartment, combined with elegant sheers it softens the room while still giving it a contemporary feel.

With Christmas sneaking up so quickly it seems like I have a million things on the go. With Christmas only seven weeks away it seems everyone is starting to prepare their home for the arrival of family and friends! Back from my travels

After an amazing trip through India and China it is great to be home again. During my travels I was constantly inspired by so many different things, from unique products and crafts to inspired combinations of colour and design.

Will there be new furniture and decorating products in store? With so many wonderful products in the world who could resist bringing parts of that back to Australia! Over the months ahead we have several containers due to arrive as well as our own exclusive range of furniture that I am very excited about.

In my absence Aria Home Interiors has continued to receive plenty of new goodies. This retro inspired sofa and ikat finished chest of drawers has just arrived and been placed in our latest window display.

Singapore Sling

With a day to spend in Singapore who could resist lunch at the famous Raffles hotel. The lush gardens and colonial architecture is all so relaxing (and a little hot if sitting outdoors). With shopping in mind I also visited the new Marina Bays Sands shopping complex. It is a stand out not just for the amazing modern architecture but for pure indulgence. With what seems like every luxury brand in the world all in one place I'm sure there will be a little excess baggage when returning home....

A taste of India

I've been in India a week now and what a truly amazing time I have had. Everyday has been so different and yes sometimes a little shocking. After a bumpy four hour drive arriving at the Taj Mahal was breathtaking, there is nothing like seeing and touching such a beautiful monument.

I have posted just a couple of images, I love the women lining up so much colour..... Next my travels will take me to China which I am sure will hold many more surprises.

This is our latest window display full of crisp red, white and blue.

With strong Asian influences that feel perfectly at home in our tropical environment, there are a wide variety of pieces to this collection. We have occasional tables and storage cupboards as well as several styles of both arm and dining chairs in store.

Tomorrow I'm off on a travel adventure to India. A visit to the Taj Mahal will be one of my first stops and probably a high light of my trip. Hopefully I will post some beautiful images while away.......
